Droid #2 Installed Utility Arm Carrier backplate

Tonight I made use of the Lowe's Gift Card I received from my manager last Christmas. I stocked up on several of the 4-40 machine screws and lock washers I was missing. Sadly, Lowe's never seems to have much for phillips head machine screw. However I found a few that will do the job.

Here's droid #2 without the backplate...looking at the utility arms (spare resins versions I used to test the blue paint formula), you can see inside the droid.

Now you can see the back plate, painted black, is mounted inside...

...and now the front view again with the back plate installed. A very useful and clever part to help hide the goodies that are inside!

Tomorrow I'm going to do some work on the front skins, hopefully getting those ready for mounting.

New arrivals for droid #2: Aluminum shoulder detail pieces, UAC backplates

A quick update on some small progress on the droids.

Below, from left to right, are the shoulder "bars", shoulder buttons and under shoulder details.

Below, this is how they all look like mounted on the shoulder. Kudos to Ryan for producing these!

Another new arrival comes from Jerry C. These are metal backplates to the Utility Arm Carrier (UAC). I bought one for each droid. They are painted black so they do not stand out behind the utility arms.

Finally, here's how they look bolted into the back of the UAC...
I have to pick up some more 4-40 machine screws to mount these pieces into the R2's. But its nice to see some progress after several months off.

Resuming work on the droids

Well it has been a few months since I posted anything. The R2's have been on the backburner this winter since I just didn't have the budget to purchase some of the components I need. Its also too cold for paint and adhesives since the basement/shop area is a balmy 48F.

Here's how they look now...# 1 is mostly waiting for electronics. #2 needs ankles, feet and lot's more. As you can imagine, I'm devoting most of my energy to get #1 completed. I'll grab parts and pieces for #2 as they become available.

With spring on the way, the building resumes!
